Professional Growth Chair – James Reed

James Reed is the Associate Dean for Student Conduct and Community Standards at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he oversees formal adjudication processes, academic integrity strategy, and education and outreach programming. He has worked in student affairs for nearly 15 years and has over a decade of student conduct experience, including eight years of full-time conduct work at MIT. He has also held the role of Interim Senior Associate Dean at MIT, broadening his leadership across Division of Student Life functions.
James earned a Master of Education in Higher Education Administration from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a Master of Social Work in Clinical Social Work from the Boston College School of Social Work. He is currently a doctoral candidate in the Northeastern University Graduate School of Education, where his Dissertation in Practice examines how supervisor behaviors shape retention intent for student affairs professionals.
A member of ASCA since 2017, James has served the Association as a conference presenter, volunteer, program reviewer, Case Study Competition judge, and Community of Practice member. In Spring 2026, he served as co-faculty for the Core Skills module of Student Conduct 101, and he is honored to serve as the Professional Growth Chair for the 2027 Annual Conference. His commitment to ASCA reflects what he most values about the field: the people who do this work, and the conditions that help them stay, grow, and thrive.
